Development History

Peloton started developing WellView in 1991, with a focus on making well production operations and schematic well history easier to analyze and monitor. To further complete the lifecycle of a well, we then expanded WellView for drilling data management in 1997, further expanded to geological in 2005, and incorporated well integrity in 2014.

The current releases have continued to build on the strength of previous versions by enhancing WellView’s data model, visualization tools, administration tools and analytical abilities.

Schematic
WellView uses our unique and industry leading wellbore schematic. WellView's schematic is automatically drawn from data entered in the database. The schematic is live to the data; users can double-click the image to edit or add more details. In addition, the schematic contains all events throughout the lifecycle of the wellbore and can be displayed at any point in the well's timeline. Templates can be easily created to show different data elements.

Customizable Reports
Fast, accurate and hassle-free reporting drastically reduces the time necessary to pull and report critical data.

Completely customize and tailor your reporting to your needs. Virtually infinite customizations of reports and graphs are available, without any programming knowledge or IT assistance required. Reports are live and current, empowering users to click any piece of data to hyperlink directly into the WellView editor, where they can review or edit the data as necessary.

Scalability

WellView has the most comprehensive set of legacy system imports available, including a full DIMS/OpenWells import, PERC, WellCore and others. Custom imports have been built for Excel and other systems.

Electronic Well File
WellView is a true electronic well file system with a comprehensive data model and file attachments. You can attach Excel, PDF, Word and image files to the well file and store them within the database for easy collaboration, organization and recall. Attachments give companies an easy way to manage all documents, including legacy morning reports from Excel or paper files.

Field Communication and Data Synchronization
WellView has the most powerful yet flexible field data transfer system available. WellView's two-way exchange of data and flexible Microsoft-based communications reduce field data problems and reliance on IT support.

Security

WellView integrates with other applications such as Compass, StressCheck and Well Plan via XML, WITSML file transfer or direct access.

WITSML Data Imports
Leverage the WITSML add-in to import data directly from the responsible service companies. Import mud, frac, directional details without the need to re-key the data. WellView also supports importing detailed real time data from the log object on a WITSML server.

BenchMarking and Regulatory Reporting
WellView supports exports to different industry bench marking initiatives, such as the Rushmore Reviews. PCP and ESP pump failure data can be exported to a RIFTS format.

Data Audit and Quality Control
WellView provides tools to audit data at the time of data entry or as a well review. Custom business rules can be incorporated into the audit logic.

Schematics and reports are also excellent QC tools. Double-click the error and fix the problem. Since the data is normalized, you need to fix it only once, and all reports and tools that use the information are corrected.

Licensing
WellView uses a soft-key web-based licensing system. No cumbersome bit locks are required. Companies can administer licenses themselves using a simple web interface.

Data is gathered, processed and communicated from each phase of operations and used by multiple departments. New Practices for Oilfield Water Management

Water is a critical component in drilling and hydraulic fracturing (fracking), and is rapidly becoming a significant part of operating costs, incurring not just the costs of acquisition, treatment and sustainable disposition, but also the indirect costs of regulatory compliance. Further to this, extracting, transporting and treating water utilizes a large amount of energy. This paper describes how operators have implemented new and effective practices for managing water using SiteView and WellView, software applications by Peloton. 

Three case studies are presented here that highlight the experience of Encana, Range Resources, and Noble Energy in applying these technologies to track and manage water as a resource.

Increasing Field-Wide Return on Investment: The Integration of WellView & OilField Manager Software

Closing the gaps between current output and productive capacity is one of the best opportunities to quickly enhance production and improve recovery. Maintaining a database of the complete well history as well as the production results is key to improving the overall performance of the field. Being able to correlate production trends with well history reveals effective remediation methods and best practices. This paper highlights the value that can be realized when the production rates of a field are integrated with the well work of each well in that field. This "field-to-well" view of information requires that the capture of information be done locally at the well with user-friendly tools to ensure completeness. Obtaining this capability also requires that information on the field and well is integrated. OFM well and reservoir analysis software from Schlumberger and WellView from Peloton have been developed to provide such capability, and are used together as the principal example in this paper. However, WellView can be integrated with other production analysis tools, such as Aries, DSS, Peep, etc. The integration of these advanced applications provides engineers and managers with the necessary tools to optimize production on each well and across the entire field.

The Value of Failure Tracking and Analysis Using WellView

Production downtime is costly in the capital-intensive operations of drilling, completing and operating wells. For more than two decades, E&P companies have understood the business value of systematically documenting equipment failures in the field and analyzing their root causes. Knowing the specific frequencies and root causes enables the identification of trends and patterns in failures over time, which can reduce both costs and production downtime. This paper illustrates the importance of having a consolidated data repository for tracking and analyzing failures in the field by equipment type, location and cause. The ability to capture and analyze failures enables trends and patterns to be identified, so that changes to equipment and processes can be made to increase the Mean Time between Failures (MTBF).

MasterView Integration Object Technology

The MasterView Database enables you to use expanded WellView, RigView, SiteView and ProdView data models to easily and comprehensively track more of your well and lease data.

Using the MasterView Integrator, SiteView data from construction operations can seamlessly flow to your drilling operations, and data from WellView drilling operations, such as mud information, job data, and well status, can flow back to SiteView for workflow and future reclamation/remediation operations.

2014

  • WellView® 10.0 is commercially released with numerous data model and visualization enhancements including well barriers, wellhead/Christmas tree/BOP, and well integrity.
  • SiteView® 5.0 is commercially released with numerous enhancements including integrated water tracking with WellView, the ability to do rate based estimating for jobs, the ability to hyperlink to attachments directly outside of the database, and an icon library for the schematic that lets you choose which icon represents each record. In addition system files can now be sent as upgrades through the sync process.
  • RigView® 4.0 is commercially released with numerous enhancements for viewing and printing the schedule, a new schedule metrics tab and data model updates including Rig Inspections and Job Approvals.

2013

  • Peloton opens an office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to focus on sales, customer support and services for our drilling and well data software solutions in Latin America.

  • SiteView® 3.2 is made available with target specific enhancements around the management of tubular inventories. You can now track and manage tubular inventory in SiteView®, including casing, tubing, line pipe and flow line.

2008

  • SiteView® 3.1 is commercially released with enhancements to the data model to include more complete equipment tracking, the ability to handle bulk inventory at site, a complete EH&S system, and enhanced job tracking.
  • RigView® 2.1 is officially released with improved performance and additional functionality. New features include the ability to configure multiple schedule templates, allowing scheduling for many disciplines within an organization, and the ability to set job dependencies, ensuring proper job order is followed when scheduling jobs. Tables have been added to capture additional details for rig equipment, including shakers/screens, centrifuges/cyclones, expanded pump, and other equipment.

2007

  • RigView® 2.0 is officially released with improved performance and additional functionality. New features include the ability to configure multiple schedule templates, allowing scheduling for many disciplines within an organization, and the ability to set job dependencies, ensuring proper job order is followed when scheduling jobs.

  • RigView® 1.0 is commercially released to help streamline rig scheduling for drilling, completions and all well service work.

  • Peloton opens its office in Jakarta and begins sales and support of Peloton products throughout Asia.
    SiteView® 2.0 is commercially released.
  • Peloton introduces TimeView®, a new data visualization tool that brings together reports and real-time data for the first time.

  • Peloton opens an Amsterdam office to focus on international sales and support of Peloton products.
  • Peloton opens its Aberdeen office to target and service Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

  • WellView® 7.2 is released with new report driven data entry screens. Design a report in seconds and you've automatically created the data entry screen with zero extra effort.
  • Peloton partners with Pason to deliver WellView® to rig sites on Pason's hardware. No more hardware, software, or communications administration required by operators. Just click on WellView® in the shack and you're running. Reports transmit to both Pason's Data Hub and the operators own internal WellView® database.

2001

  • Peloton introduces SiteView®, an information system for construction, remediation and reclamation.
  • WellView® 6.2 is released commercially with enhancements to drilling operations, display of drilling curves and logs on schematic, and new multi-well reporting.
  • WellView® 7.0 is released commercially. Large DIMS client switches to WellView®. WellView® now used by four of the top six oil companies in the world.

1999

  • WellView® 6.0 is released commercially.
  • Peloton opens a Houston office and begins worldwide sales and support of WellView®.
  • WellView® 6.1 is released commercially with full operational reporting.

1998

  • WellView® is linked to Schlumberger's Finder database.

1996

  • An import from Landmark's DIMS for Windows is completed. Many DIMS users “see” their wells for the first time.

1995

  • PetroFORM 1.0 (formerly Board Forms) is released. Its new technology allows Peloton to build new government forms in hours rather than weeks.
  • Work begins on an all-new WellView® with better database performance and customizability. The scope is expanded to include drilling and operational reporting information.

1994

  • WellView 4.1 is released — the first version of WellView® with a relational database.

1993

  • Peloton partners with Merak for sales and support of WellView®.

1992

  • WellView® is readied for commercial release and marketing begins.
