Production Operations Oversight

Production operations oversight is the daily work of finding the wells, facilities and routes that need attention and acting on them first. ProdView brings daily volumes, downtime, well tests, field records and alerts into one production record, so engineers and foremen review exceptions instead of scanning spreadsheets.

Operators run ProdView from the pumper's phone to the regulatory report. The morning review, the production target and the downtime log all read the same validated data.

What Is Production Surveillance?

Production surveillance is the daily review of how wells and facilities are performing against what they should produce. It answers three questions every morning: which wells are down or under target, why, and what the field team should do about it today.

The data behind those answers usually lives in too many places. Volumes sit in one system, downtime in a spreadsheet, well changes in another team's files and field notes in a pumper's truck. By the time someone lines them up, the shut-in has run another day.

Production data software puts that review on one record. Field data is captured at the source, validated, and compared against targets and tolerances, so teams operate by exception and spend the morning on the wells that need them.

How Production Operations Oversight Works in ProdView

From the lease road to the morning call, these are the steps that turn field data into decisions.

  1. Capture at the source

Pumpers and operators record volumes, tank gauges, well tests and downtime in ProdView Go, online or offline, while SCADA and sensors supply measurements automatically.

  2. Validate as it arrives

Built-in validation and tolerance flags catch missing or out-of-range values before they reach a report.

  3. Compare against targets

Daily production is compared with targets and expected rates, and automated alerts surface the wells, facilities and routes that fall outside tolerance.

  4. Act on the exceptions

Engineers and foremen review the flagged wells, record downtime causes and assign field follow-up through Peloton Ops, so the day's work goes where production is at risk.

  5. Learn from the history

Downtime, workovers and failures stay on the production record, so teams can measure workover impact and spot repeat failure patterns across assets in Peloton Dashboards.

Field Data at the Source. Decisions the Same Day.

Oversight starts on the lease road. Field teams capture volumes, downtime and observations in ProdView Go, even without a signal, and the record is in ProdView in time for the morning review.

Keeping Artificial Lift Data Current

A representative upstream production workflow across WellView and ProdView.

Challenge

Artificial lift types and configurations change over the life of a well, and each change affects performance and cost assumptions. For one upstream producer, tracking those changes across separate systems and departments was slow and error-prone. Outdated lift data skewed flowing bottomhole pressure calculations, lease operating expense forecasts and production analysis, which delayed insight and led to costly decisions.

Solution

The producer connected its well file and production data on the Peloton Platform. When a new tubing string or artificial lift system is installed, the completion or workover supervisor records it in WellView. The change flows into ProdView, where production engineers apply it to bottomhole pressure calculations, operating cost forecasts and gas lift targets. Date-effective records keep each calculation tied to the lift method in place at the time.

Outcome

Production engineers work from current well configurations without re-entering them, and the asset team sees lift changes, production and cost in one view.

  • Lift changes recorded once, in WellView
  • Pressure and cost models use current configurations
  • Date-effective history for every lift change

Production Operations Questions

What is production surveillance software?

Production surveillance software tracks how wells and facilities are performing against their expected rates and flags the ones that need attention. Peloton's ProdView combines daily volumes, well tests, downtime, field records and automated alerts in one production record, so engineers and field teams can operate by exception instead of reviewing every well.

What does operating by exception mean in production operations?

Operating by exception means reviewing only the wells, facilities or routes that fall outside a target or tolerance, instead of every well every day. In ProdView, Peloton applies configured targets, tolerance flags and automated alerts to validated production data, so teams start each day with a short list of exceptions and the data behind them.

How does ProdView track downtime?

Field teams record well-down events and their causes in ProdView or ProdView Go as they happen. Peloton keeps downtime on the production record with the well, so teams can see deferred production, compare causes across assets and review workover impact using the same data that drives daily reporting.

Can field teams capture production data without a signal?

Yes. ProdView Go works offline and syncs automatically when the device reconnects. Pumpers and operators record volumes, tank gauges, well tests, downtime and safety events at the site, and Peloton sends the validated entries into ProdView for review, allocation and reporting.

How do well changes in WellView reach production teams?

On the Peloton Platform, a well created in WellView appears automatically in ProdView, and changes recorded against the well, such as a new artificial lift system, are available to production engineers without re-entry. That keeps pressure calculations, forecasts and surveillance tied to the well's current configuration.

Does ProdView connect to SCADA?

Yes. ProdView connects to SCADA systems and ingests field telemetry and sensor data, alongside measurements captured on mobile devices. Peloton also provides API endpoints for enterprise integration, so production data can feed data warehouses, reporting tools and Peloton Dashboards.
