- Service Organization Control (SOC2) Reports
SOC (System and Organization Controls) for Service Organizations reports are designed to help organizations such as Peloton build trust and confidence in the services they provide and controls related to those services through a report by an independent CPA (Certified Public Accountant). Each SOC control report is designed to help service organizations meet specific customer needs.
Service organizations like Peloton depend on their internal controls' integrity to serve and protect their business and customers. SOC compliance is becoming a necessity to build confidence that systems are secure and data is protected.
There are three different levels of SOC reports:
SOC 1 reports on controls at Peloton relevant to a customer's internal control over financial reporting. SOC 1 reports will be used by customers and their auditors to plan/perform an audit for their financial statements that use outsourced systems like Peloton's Platform solutions. These reports are typically used as part of a customer's SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance.
SOC 2 reports on Peloton's controls relevant to its information security policies and procedures encompassing the security and availability of its Platform services. The reports ensure that Peloton's information security measures are in line with today's requirements. SOC 2 reports are used by customers and their stakeholders to gain confidence and place trust in Peloton's Platform solutions.
SOC 3 reports are designed to assure customers about the controls at Peloton relevant to security and availability but do not need the level of detail in a SOC 2 report and can be freely distributed.
The different types of SOC reports are as follows:
Type 1 is a SOC report at a point in time (e.g. May 31). It covers the internal controls' design effectiveness to meet the control objectives for Peloton's Platform solutions. The Type 1 report attests to the internal controls' suitability and validates the controls' effectiveness to meet the control objective as of a specified date.
Type 2 is a SOC report covering a period of time, typically twelve months (e.g. October 1, 2020 - September 30, 2021). This type of report covers the internal controls' design effectiveness to meet Peloton's Platform solutions' control objectives. The Type 2 report provides reasonable assurance that the controls were designed and operated effectively to meet Peloton's control objectives during the period of time under review.
